Suriname is a small country located on the northeastern coast of South America. It is bordered by Guyana to the west, Brazil to the south and east, and French Guiana to the east. The country has a population of approximately 600,000 people and its capital and largest city is Paramaribo.

Suriname is a parliamentary democracy, with the President serving as the head of state and the Prime Minister serving as the head of government. The country has a diverse population, with people of East Indian, African, Chinese, and European ancestry. Dutch is the official language of Suriname, although many people also speak English and Sranan Tongo, a Creole language.

Suriname has a market-based economy that is heavily dependent on the export of natural resources, particularly oil, gold, and bauxite. The country has a small agricultural sector and a developing tourism industry. It is a member of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) and the Union of South American Nations (UNASUR).

Geopolitically, Suriname has traditionally had close ties with the Netherlands, its former colonizer, and the United States. In recent years, the country has also sought to strengthen its relationships with other countries in South America and the Caribbean.
