Senegal is a country located on the west coast of Africa. It is bordered by Mauritania to the north, Mali to the east, Guinea to the southeast, and Guinea-Bissau to the southwest. Senegal is a democratic, secular, and predominantly Muslim country, with a population of about 16 million people. The official language is French, although many people also speak Wolof, the country's most widely spoken language.

Senegal has a long history of political stability, and has held regular democratic elections since the early 1990s. The current president is Macky Sall, who was elected in 2012 and re-elected in 2019. Sall's government has focused on economic development, infrastructure improvements, and reducing corruption.

Senegal has a mixed economy, with agriculture, tourism, and manufacturing playing important roles. The country is a major producer of peanuts, and exports a variety of other agricultural products, including fish, cotton, and dairy products. Tourism is also a significant contributor to the economy, with visitors attracted by the country's sandy beaches, wildlife reserves, and cultural attractions.

Senegal is a member of the African Union and the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), and has strong relations with other countries in the region.
