About Paraguay

Geography & terrain

Split by the Paraguay River into the fertile eastern region of hills and plains and the arid, sparsely populated Gran Chaco lowlands to the west. Subtropical climate in the east, hotter and drier in the Chaco. Landlocked, no coastline, though the river system provides access to the sea via Argentina. The flat, open terrain offers few natural defenses, though the harsh, remote Chaco has historically been difficult for armies to operate in.

Geography & terrain

Landlocked, no coastline. Entirely mountainous, tucked high in the Pyrenees between France and Spain, with an alpine climate of cold winters and mild summers. Its steep, enclosed terrain makes large-scale invasion impractical, and the country's small size and natural isolation have long kept it outside major conflicts.
