Ivory Coast, also known as Côte d'Ivoire, is a country located in West Africa. It is bordered by Ghana to the east, Burkina Faso and Mali to the north, and Guinea and Liberia to the west. The country has a population of about 25 million people, and its capital and largest city is Yamoussoukro. French is the official language of Ivory Coast, and the country is a former French colony.

Ivory Coast has a diverse economy that is centered on agriculture, particularly the production of coffee, cocoa, and rubber. The country is the world's largest producer of cocoa and is a major exporter of coffee. In recent years, Ivory Coast has also been working to diversify its economy by developing its tourism, manufacturing, and service sectors.

Ivory Coast has a history of political instability and conflict, particularly in the late 20th and early 21st centuries. In 2002, a civil war broke out in the country, leading to the division of the country into a government-controlled south and a rebel-controlled north. The conflict ended in 2007 with the signing of a peace agreement, but tensions have continued to flare up periodically. In 2010, a disputed presidential election led to violence and unrest, and in 2020, the country experienced a military coup.

Geography & terrain

Low coastal plains and lagoons give way to dense tropical forest in the south and rolling savanna toward the north. Hot and humid near the coast, drier and more seasonal inland. Has an Atlantic coastline. The terrain is generally open and passable rather than naturally fortified, offering few major barriers to movement across the country.
