Grenada is a Caribbean island nation located in the southeastern Caribbean Sea. It is located northwest of Trinidad and Tobago, and south of St. Vincent and the Grenadines. The country is a parliamentary democracy with a prime minister as the head of government. It has a population of approximately 112,000 people and its official language is English. Grenada is a member of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) and the Organization of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS).
Grenada has a small, open economy that is heavily reliant on tourism and agriculture, particularly the cultivation of nutmeg, cocoa, and bananas. The country is also a significant exporter of marine products and has a small manufacturing sector. Grenada is vulnerable to natural disasters, such as hurricanes, which can damage infrastructure and disrupt economic activity.
The United States and the United Kingdom have traditionally been Grenada's major trading partners, although the country has also sought to strengthen its economic ties with other countries in the region, such as China and Venezuela. Grenada has a close relationship with the United States and is a member of the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank, which is tied to the U.S. dollar.
Grenada has a history of political instability and has experienced several coups and periods of military rule. In 1983, a U.S. invasion of Grenada was launched in response to a coup and the country has since been a stable democracy.
