A Pacific island nation combining volcanic high islands (like Pohnpei and Chuuk) with low coral atolls, scattered across a huge expanse of open ocean. Tropical maritime climate, warm and humid year-round. Coastline is essentially the whole territory — there is no real interior depth on most islands. The vast surrounding ocean and extreme dispersal of tiny islands make sustained large-scale invasion logistically very difficult, even though any single island offers minimal defensive terrain on its own.

Famously difficult to conquer and hold: the high passes and compartmentalized valleys favor local defenders and have worn down successive outside armies over centuries.
