Has coastlines on two oceans. The rugged, forested interior has historically made overland conquest difficult, though the extensive coastlines on both sides offer multiple points of access by sea.

Famously difficult to conquer and hold: the high passes and compartmentalized valleys favor local defenders and have worn down successive outside armies over centuries.
