Landlocked, no coastline. Rugged and mountainous, dominated by the Hindu Kush range, with arid plains and deserts in the south and west. Climate is arid to semiarid, with harsh winters at altitude. Famously difficult to conquer and hold: the high passes and compartmentalized valleys favor local defenders and have worn down successive outside armies over centuries.

Andorra is a small, landlocked country located in the Pyrenees mountains between Spain and France. It has an area of about 181 square miles and a population of about 77,000 people. Andorra is a parliamentary democracy with two co-princes, the President of France and the Bishop of Urgell in Spain, who serve as joint heads of state. The country has a high standard of living and a stable economy, with a focus on tourism and banking.
